THE VARIATION CODE
In order to recognize and catalog every box variation, a variation code protocol had to be established. Started in the early version of the site, Icame up with a rather simple codification that relies on 4 keys:
- The series (RW, SF, KS, AP, YY and MP)
- The model cariation ID (such as 3A for RW Ciment mixer, or 2A for KS Muir-Hill Dumper)
- The box type (B2, E3, F4…)
- The Major and Minor box variation for that particular model (see the Variation Guidelines page for more)
A good example to illustrate the naming convention is the RW-67A:
So, for the variation “RW-67A-B5-2b”, we refer as Regular Wheel 67A model (Alvis Saladin Armored Car 6X6), B5 box, showing the second major variation (this major varation is based on the drawing that does not show a background) and
“b” is the second box using that major variation (B5 - the end flaps are playing the role of the minor variation)
Another example, using 66B:
RW-66B-D2-2b refers to Regular Wheel 66B model (Harley Davidson & Sidecar), D2 box, showing the second major variation (this major varation is based number style used on the front of the box) and “b”
is the second box using that major variation (it’s the Top/Botton using both blue color). RW-66B-D1-1a and RW-66B-D1-1b only defer for one minor detail: the use of “NEW MODEL”.
