GENERAL INFO

Released in 1959, the 64A Breakdown Truck is another part of Lesney’s army platoon. Packaged in its debut in a B3, blue rectangle box, it shows a front view of a very large red truck with dark front and light background and has a different front and back due to the numbers been slightly to the left on one side. The B4 box variation that followed depicted a smaller truck, with yellow grille and wheels, and the model is not centered, being to the left of the picture. Both front and back are identical. The B5 variation would use the old drawing again, so the front and back are different too. All of those boxes are size 3, but Lesney would use size 4 boxes moving forward, so another B5 box was done, and the drawing is same on both sides, the model has yellow wheels again and is more centered, while numbers are a bit shorter and closer to the model.

The first C box would reuse the same last B5 box, but another C box would follow. That one, again, would have different front and back. And the numbers would be different from the first C box as well: the “4” has a different style, which is obvious, but the “6” is also different and somewhat narrower.

Finally, D1 and D2 boxes were done. The model is all green, with black wheels. The D2 box exists in two different top/bottom color schemes.

RARITY

It is very hard to tell if any of those boxes are less common than another!
