GENERAL INFO

With a total of eleven variations, 9 of them major ones, the 61A Scout Car is certainly an interesting from a box collecting perspective. Released in 1959, and like many army models, it has many different patterns, such as different front and back, model number changes and model display.

The first variation comes in the “blue square” pattern and the front and back are different in the way the model numbers are printed. It came in a B3 box. The model was shown large an all in red, with background.

The second variation, B4 box, has the wheels in yellow, still with background, and a little smaller.

Then came 3 different B5 boxes. The first one reprise the B4 box, but with different model number pattern. The second one brings back the first drawing of the B3 box, while the last B5 variation shows a totally different drawing, sharper but smaller, with yellow wheels and no background.

The large all red drawing will be used again with the first C box, but the number are farther away from the model. The second C box uses the small, yellow wheeled model of the late B5 box.

Finally, the D boxes show the model in green, with tan driver, facing right. There is only one D1 variation but three D2, depending on the top/bottom color combination.

All boxes were made in size 3.

RARITY

It is quite difficult to identify a specific rarer variation, given the high number of them. The C box using the old drawing maybe the less common. It is not considered as a rare box.
