GENERAL INFO

The 53B Mercedes 220 is yet another Mercedes in the Matchbox series and it came in 1963 in a nice D1 box showing the model in red with driver door open, with black wheels and very small model numbers. The NEW MODEL can be found on end flaps. The box was redone with the usual larger model numbers without serifs with D1 style end flaps. Followed three variations of the D2 box, which used an even larger model number. Those boxes have three different top/bottom color schemes.

The 53B also appeared in an E type ox. The E3 box shows the model in red and still has the driver’s door open. It has black wheels, and the picture is quite nice.

All boxes are size 5.

RARITY

The NEW MODEL box as well as the E3 box are harder to find, the E3 probably the hardest.
