Released in 1968 to replace 46B, the Mercedes 300 SE was first packaged in an E4 NEW MODEL box. The ® was soon added. Both boxes depict the model in a dark green color. Then a blue model variation appeared, still with the ® and NEW MODEL on end flaps. It is a bit of a “controversial” variation, since the blue color is very close to green, but nevertheless, when put side by side, the blue color seems more obvious. The color difference is even more obvious when comparing the end flaps.
There is no confusion on the color of the model featured on the F box. The blue Mercedes is shown with trunk and driver right door open. Unlike the E boxes, where the model is facing left, the one on the F box is facing right.
Sizes available for the 46C are all 5.
The F box is scarcer than any E boxes. Because of the color being difficult to tell on a screen, it is hard to get the blue variation of the E box. It is by far easier to tell in person!
