GENERAL INFO
Another interesting model to collect for boxes is certainly the 40B Leyland Royal Tiger Coach. Released in 1961 in the C type era, it was initially released with “NEW MODEL” on the end flaps, while the drawing depicted the model in red and black, with yellow wheels and dark hubs. The model numbers were rather short and more to the left of the picture. A second C box variation was then released, that featured lines underneath the model. The model numbers are taller and more to the right of the picture.
The D boxes for the 40B are noteworthy, as no less than four different boxes were made. A first D1 box was made available, featuring the model in light grey blue color, grey wheels and very small numbers. A second D1 box replaced the first, with model number bigger, but closer to model. The first D2 box shows even larger numbers, with serifs of course, still closer to model. Finally, a fourth variation was made with large numbers, this time close to the edge of the box. In all cases, the model is grey blue with grey wheels, like the very first D1 variation.
The E3 box, the last variation, shows a large picture of the model, with black wheels.
RARITY
C boxes are quite interesting to collect and the one with NEW MODEL might be a little harder to find. It is hard to say if any of the D boxes is rarer than the other, but the first D1 variation might be a little less common. Of all the 40B boxes, the E3 is certainly the harder to find, but should not be considered a “rare” box.
