GENERAL INFO

The 24B Excavator took over the smaller 24A and used as its first box the same picture of the last box from its predecessor, but fitted on a size 3 box, which of course explains the use of the blue rectangle. This B3 box was soon replaced by a B4 box with a new size 3 picture showing a larger design of the model. This same design was used as the first B5 box as well, before another new drawing came along, this with an even larger depiction of the excavator. This major variation was only available in B5 sub-type. As if there weren’t enough different drawings for this model, a last major variation was released in the B5 sub-type. This time, an all-red model, with yellow wheels and red hubs, was used as the illustration of 24B.

The two last B5 boxes were used as well for C boxes.

D boxes are also quite interesting. The D1 sub-type used two different number patterns: the first, the usual without serifs, is quite small, so a second D1 box was made but used with serifs numbers. Finally, the D2 box used the larger with serifs numbers. The D2 box was available in three different top/bottom color combinations.

All of the 245B boxes are size 3.

RARITY

With a total of 9 different major variations, it could be quite difficult to tell if any are particularly rare. However, the B4 box, as well as the C boxes and the D1 with serifs numbers are probably the most interesting to get.
