GENERAL INFO

Released in March 1964, the 17D Foden Hoveringham Tipper was first packaged in a D2 box with NEW MODEL on the end flaps. The box features the yellow target showing the suspension and has only one #17.

The second box is quite special, has it bears what would be the future “MATCHBOX” lettering used on E boxes. The target is still yellow. There is no more NEW MODEL on end flaps.

The third box also uses the new “MATCHBOX” lettering, but the target is now in white.

The first E box released has the additional rear view of the model. It is an E3 sub-type. Finally, a fifth major variation was made with a single side view of the model. It was available in E3, E4 and E4R sub-types.

The first E3 with additional view is quite scarce, not only for this model, but among all E boxes.
